A selection of the best short films shot and produced in the Top of the South region in the past year, as chosen by a panel of experts.
12 best short film entries by local filmmakers are showcased this year in our 2021-2022 “Gold Reel” screenings scheduled for Friday 03rd June, Saturday 04th June at the Pastorius Waller Theatre at the Suter Art Gallery. Now in its seventh year, the Top of the South Film Festival continues to expand in quantity and quality. From comedy to drama, horror, music videos to documentary and experimental films, the Top of the South Film Festival celebrates the best locally produced film in the “Gold Reel”
Entries are open only to submissions from Nelson, Motueka, Marlborough, Golden Bay, Westport and Kaikoura.
Join us for an exciting Red Carpet event with VIP arrivals, food and beverage, and socialising from 6.30pm-7.20pm preceding the screening on Friday 3rd June and Saturday 4th June .
Immediately following the screenings, the audience will be asked to vote for their favourite film, which will receive the “People’s Choice” award. And following only Saturday’s screening, awards will be given out in 14 categories:
Best Film, Director, Screenplay, Best Actor/Actress, Supporting Actor/Actress, Cinematography, Editing, Best Original Score,Best Sound, Best Documentary, Best Student Film, Best Music Video, Best 48 Hour and the Falvey Filmmaker of the year award.
All festival proceeds are donated to the Top of the South Filmmakers Society which provides financial support to its members who pursue the art of filmmaking in our Top of the South region.
